Welcome to Ansalon's Mud and Website News!

July 1st, 2006

We now have an interactive web-based forum for Ansalon!

This forum for the most part will replace the News section here. Click on the tag above to check it out.  Currently the forum is hosted on a free site, but we are in the process of moving it to Mudmagic under our own accounts.  Its just summer time, and everyone is pretty busy until the rain starts again, so things are moving slowly at the moment.

Please note that because of the forums, we have been able to eliminate some of the web space clutter such as The Playerzone.  All these new groupings are listed under the forum and are now interactive.  Please feel free to use this forum if you are a regular player on Ansalon, or have questions or need help as a new player.  Don't forget our note system on the actual mud itself as well.    We look forward to hearing from everyone and getting some great interaction.

We will now be using this NEWS page for bigger announcements and whole 'State of the Mud' addresses.  Our newest SotM Address is listed below.  Please use the SotM in the light it was intended.  These are roleplay seeds... ideas that give players a background for their current stories or aid on concepts for new ones.  Below is a brief summary of what became of Ansalon during the last headline war... and what the current conditions are.   Feel free to elaborate and add your own personal flare into the situations listed below.

STATE OF THE MUD ADDRESS!

Things on Ansalon aren't always the same. Because of wars and the interactions of our roleplayers and the outcomes of mighty battles, the landscape and its people are prone to a constant ebb and flow either in who occupies it, how it flourishes, or the physical condition. This last war took a particular heavy toll on certain places and their peoples.

The Cities and their Regions

Palanthas survived the war without any major attacks. Because of this, its thriving. Trade is on the increase, and there is a tremendous influx of war refugees from all over Ansalon. However, there is a growing noble vs. commoner rift that is keeping the Solamnic Knighthood and the Militia of Palanthas Guards very busy. All of this is currently blamed on the lack of Solamnic Leadership and the sheer amount of refugees in the city. Solamnia is a nation divided however, part of her land is no longer her own.

In the Solamnic city of Caergoth, the Daligoth Ogres invaded and killed every last man woman and child in the region. They still inhabit this city and its surrounding areas, making travel incredibly dangerous both by land and sea in the direct area.

Neraka is booming. There has been a huge influx of male slaves over the age of 12 shipped in directly from Abanasinia, and that has greatly injected Neraka with a well-needed economic boost. In fact, many people there have gotten wealthy rather quickly on the slave trade. Also, around Neraka, the climate has been mild enough that they are getting record tropical harvests of their crops leaning towards sugar canes, fruits, and grains.

Solace is comprised solely of all females. Any males to be found there are well under the age of twelve, and the entire government of the region is now female. The city struggles although the women are quickly adapting to life without their men. The KoT surviving there find the duty altogether pleasing. Their ranks are mostly male. A dark tower rises outside of Solace on the mountains near the site of an old magician's tower. It dominates the landscape and is said to be a Thorn Knight stronghold. Also, a massive black wall has been erected dividing the lands of Abanasinia and the forest of the elves in Qualinost. New Ports and Crossings are thriving because of Solace's new male export market.

Tarsis is thriving as well. Because of the current changes to the Plains of Dust due to the last Chaos minion's violent sweep through the area, there are a tremendous amount of Rogue and Wildrunner in the region. This city is becoming the major gateway city to the seaport of Rikit.  It is said the once dry plains of dust are now a paradise. A major river flows through the region, and massive forests flank its banks. Grasslands surround it on all sides... and the nomadic peoples graze their livestock and absolutely thrive there.

A goblin leader organized the forces of the goblins and marched them to Tarsis and into the arms of the entire Wildrunner standing army and most of Rogues. While the goblins were crushed in the final battle, the remnants of their civilization scattered in the region and those prone to more forest habitats found the lush new uninhabited forests of the plains of dust to their liking and have slowly begun to become a pest in the region to the more civilized folks.

Kalaman was taken by the KoT, then retaken by the KoS and remains in their control to this day.  Its a torn and war ravaged city.

The Gnomes of Mt. Nevermind didn't ever realize the war was happening, and remain untouched.

The Dwarves of Thorbardin remained unaffected by the war, although now mysterious diseases run rampant through the underground nation. They erected a new fort on the surface near Thorbardin in an old abandoned KOT stronghold. It is said there are new treaties among the nations.

Kendermore and The Kender are also thriving. They were also virtually untouched.

Sanction is a completely different story. At one point during the war, the massive Lords of Doom erupted, gassing the entire city and killing its population from every man woman and child. The people living there now have only been citizens for six, perhaps seven months. They live in constant fear of the mountains and know fully well what the volcanoes are capable of.

Ergoth, as a whole nation, has prospered under the conditions of the war. Everyone seems incredibly happy and satisfied there. However, there are rumors that its chief city, Gwynned is filled with the undead.

Qualinost, during the early days of the KOT invasion of Solace, proved to be invaluable source of refuge for those males escaping the northern aggression. In return, the refugees are helping to rebuild and defend Qualinost.

The Clans

The Knights of Takhisis are completely broke. Their coffers are empty and their membership scattered to the four winds. At the end of the last war, Kern and Blode were both under KOT control, as well as Abanasinia and Kurnost. They also have sea goblin treaties, and those creatures control and harass the east coast of Ansalon, keeping those ports pretty much in the hands of the Knights of Takhisis. It is said that Storms Keep is abandoned. The commander of the KoT forces lost most of these forces in a surprise attack against Silvanost, where their intelligence failed and they ran into a superior elven and wildrunner army.

The Knights of Solamnia are decimated. Although Lord Beaux was able to maintain his hold on the High Clerists tower against the forces of Chaos, it completely destroyed the last of his standing armies in Solamnia. At the same time, a prominent knight was sailing his forces to Neraka to take the city, when out on the sea itself, the boats disappeared and along with them the majority of Solamnia's standing army. No one knows if they are drowned, defeated, or something else happened. No bodies ever washed ashore anywhere.

Shadow lost ALL their forces as well against the Knights of Takhisis. Only scattered members remain, and rumor has it they are in hiding for good.

The stranglehold the Children of Chemosh had on the land seems to have ebbed as well. Most of the downfall of this group came when their leader, a powerful undead minion of Chemosh, was stripped of his immortality and converted instead into a very outspoken seven year oldchild. It is said that they work on their own homeland and build furiously to create their own mecca of Chemosh worship in a place called 'Truth'.

The Wildrunner, The Rogue, and the remnants of the Albanasinia people have formed an alliance.

Out of the ashes of the war, a new clan has risen driven by the need to protect ancient knowledge's and teach of those knowledge's wherever they go. The people call them Heralds and their ways are yet unknown on Ansalon... though sooner or later they will become more visible.
